- The servers and programs are no longer available but this web
site remains for those interested in seeing what the programs could
do. If anyone is interested in purchasing the source code to the
system, or particular algorithms, you can contact me via the email
icon on my weblog.

- So much for the 14th of August! I'm happy to say that the Odds Viewer server
is back online. Odds Viewer Pro should
now continue to work Remember that you will need to install the Functional
Developer run time library before running it. The reason for being offline
is that the cost of running the internet service was getting prohibitive.
I've done some changes to manage this issue and I'll monitor the cost to see
how it goes.
- 07/08/2002
- The Odds Viewer server is temporarily off-line. This means Odds Viewer Pro
will not run at the moment. It will be back up after the 14th of August. If
you wish more information on Odds Viewer Pro, or automatic system and betting
programs, feel free to contact me.

- The Odds Viewer server is back online again. Odds Viewer should now be operational
again. Sorry for the inconvenience.
- 03/03/2002
- The Odds Viewer server will be down from approximately 2pm to 6pm today
(New Zealand time). During this time Odds Viewer will report an error when
trying to retrieve the list of meetings and will not be able to be used. The
server needs to go down as there will be no power at the location where it
is housed during this time. I will post a note here when it comes back up.

- A trial version of Odds Viewer Pro is now available. It is version 2.5,
and represents an 'alpha' version for testing purposes. You can download
it from here, read the instructions
or view screenshots. This version allows placing
bets, dutch book support, 'Dr Z' style return on investment calculations,
etc. Make sure you read the instructions so that you understand the limitations
of this version - remember it is 'alpha' software and may not necessarily
work as you expect. You will need to install the Functional
Developer run time library before running it.
- 03/10/2001
- A new version of Odds Viewer is available. This
is version 1.5 and works with the recent changes made to the NZ
TAB web site. Odds Viewer Professional
is making good progress to completion and now features much faster odds downloading
than Odds Viewer and many other new features. Keep an eye out on the Odds
Viewer Professional page over the next couple of weeks for more details.
- 04/08/2001
- I've made Results Viewer available. It's a quick and simple program that
allows you to enter a date, meeting code (AUSR, AUCK, etc) and race number
and retrieve the win and place result dividends for that race. If you do mainly
win or place betting it's quite useful as a quick means of getting results
without having to navigate through the NZ TAB web site. It's a 650KB
download and requires the Functional Developer runtime library that is
used by Odds Viewer. I've also placed a quick web
page with screen shots describing Odds Viewer
Professional. A version of Odds Viewer with more functionality geared
towards serious punters (or those who want to be!).
- 30/06/2001
- A new version of Odds Viewer is available. It
is now at version 1.4. This version improves the method used to retrieve web
pages from the NZ TAB web site which should solve some of the problems people
have had in the past. It also includes some additional bug fixes and improvements
to the user interface.
- 06/03/2001
- Updated Odds Viewer to work with the changes
to the NZ TAB web site that were made today. Please make sure you uninstall
the old version of Odds Viewer before installing this new version.
- 13/01/2001
- Changed the installation process of Odds Viewer
to use an installer file removing the need to manually register components.
Odds Viewer
A windows application for browsing the currents odds for tote races at the
New Zealand TAB. Allows automatic updating of odds information and display of
percentage of bets placed on each runner.
Here are some example screens shots showing the main
meeting screen, the odds screen and a chart
screen.
Note that this application relies on the New Zealand TAB web site odds pages
being available from the internet. I can't take any responsibility for the accuracy
of the information displayed with my program. For the last word on the correct
odds you should visit the TAB web site, use
teletext or visit your local TAB agency. You use this program at your own risk.
The readme file explains how to install it, use it,
etc.
You'll need the following files to use Odds Viewer and follow the steps in
the readme file:
First run the installation program for the Functional Developer Run Time Library.
Next run the Odds Viewer installation program. You should now have an 'Odds
Viewer' entry in the Start menu.
The Odds Viewer installation program uses Microsoft Installer. If nothing happens
when you run the installation program you may need to install the Microsoft
Installer files:
To be notified of any updates or bug fixes to this program please send an email
to the author, Chris Double, and I'll
send you an email when new versions become available.
This product includes software developed by the OpenSSL Project for use in
the OpenSSL Toolkit (http://www.openssl.org/),
cryptographic software written by Eric Young (eay@cryptsoft.com)
and software written by Tim Hudson (tjh@cryptsoft.com).
Troubleshooting
Some common questions and answers are below.
1. I get an error when running odds-viewer saying : "A required file,
WS2_32.DLL, was not found."
You need to install the Winsock 2 libraries for Windows 95. Winsock 2 ships
with Windows NT and Windows 98 so is there automatically for those systems.
You can download the update from Microsoft at their Winsock
2 update page. You might also want to install the DCOM forWindows 95 update
as well. This may be needed. It can be obtained from the Microsoft
DCOM update page.
2. I get an error when trying to retrieve the meetings or the races.
This is normally when you try and use the program when the TAB has no meeting
information available. Try again when it is a bit closer to the race time or when
the TAB is open.
